Eduard Tisse

Whenever I think about great movies, great images come to mind and surely one of the greatest image makers in the history of movies was the cinematographer Eduard Tisse. Starting as a newsreel cameraman, Tisse was talent-spotted and assigned to work with the relatively inexperienced Sergei Eisenstein and helped shape the filmmaker's ideas creating unforgettable images for films like Strike!, Battleship Potemkin, Alexander Nevsky and Ivan the Terrible. When you watch a Tisse photographed film the anticipation of his next stunning composition is almost tangible. We can only wonder how many more masterpieces could have been created if Tisse had been able to ply his trade in Hollywood
